Our Sweet Beginning

 

In 2018, I travelled through New Zealand with my husband before having children, we fell completely in love with its nature and scenery. The idea of one day living in the beautiful Otago region stayed with us. After a few years, the opportunity came, and I left my nursing career, and we made the big move to New Zealand from Australia. We spent a wonderful year in Nelson before settling in Lake Hawea — it was hard to leave Nelson, as we met so many lovely people there.

After becoming a full-time stay-at-home mum for two years in New Zealand, I felt the desire to return to work. Ideally I would have gone back to surgical nursing, but there is no hospital nearby where I could scrub, and I didn’t want to leave Lake Hāwea or its tight-knit, welcoming community. Shift work no longer fitted family life either, and jobs that suit school hours and school terms are few and far between.

Everything changed when I began making marshmallows for my eldest daughter. She loved them so much that I packed one in her lunchbox almost every day. Creating new flavours became fun, and the whole process — making, cutting, and dusting — felt strangely soothing and satisfying.
Encouraged by her reaction, I started selling at local markets. The kind, warm feedback from the community was wonderful.

I love providing handmade gourmet marshmallows that are completely different from anything factory-made — perfect for sharing, treating yourself, daily snacking, parties, gifting, or simply enjoying with a hot drink.
What began as a simple treat for my daughter has grown into a small Lake Hāwea business that lets me stay close to home, work around school hours, and share a little handmade heaven with our neighbours.
